Guild Saga: AMA Written Summary (16 June 2022)
Preface
Progress on our next milestone, the extended gameplay video, is well underway and should arrive within the next few weeks barring any unforeseen issues.
Additionally, we want to know the community’s thoughts on whether an off-chain version of Guild Saga featuring the game’s first chapter (Tales of Respite) would be a good idea. The game would ideally be priced around other indie games of similar genres, and be released on Steam as a standalone product separate from the main on-chain release of the game.
Do you think this would be a positive or negative thing for Guild Saga in general? Let us know on Discord — your feedback is invaluable and may help to shape the future of the project!
Q: How often will World Mode receive updates? Will you also post patch notes moving forward for changes made?
A: World Mode will be receiving minor updates pretty frequently between major releases. As for patch notes, we could probably create a channel to post details whenever updates are made, or include them in the weekly community updates.
—
Q: Can a Bartering System be implemented into World Mode rather than trades using $GGLD or $SOL? This could be convenient for those looking to swap for items they want quickly (e.g., trading a Banana for Robes of Torment III in a single transaction)
A: We think this would be a good idea. When the Marketplace is launched, it will not be immediately available, but will highly likely be implemented somewhere down the line.
—
Q: What are Essences used for exactly? I see a mention of Spellweaving in one of the descriptions — is that for creating a single-use spell or learning a skill permanently?
A: Essences will be used in Spellweaving to create Magic Scrolls — single-use consumables which will allow any character to cast the spell stored inside unconditionally. For example, this means you could access a freeze spell even if you have no points allocated to Hydromancy.
—
Q: On Crafting — Will you require say a material/bar of Legendary rarity (Evarite) to produce equipment of the same rarity? Or will you require items of other rarities in addition to that?
A: Crafting any recipe will generally involve multiple items required — of which none are finalised quite yet. In general, materials of higher rarities will be used in creating items with a higher level/rarity.
—
Q: On Dismantling — Will breaking down Dual Iron Daggers give you twice the number of Iron Bars as compared to a single-handed weapon?
A: Dismantling Dual Iron Daggers will provide an amount of materials consistent with other weapons of the same tier. What you’ll get exactly is also yet to be finalised.
—
Q: On World Mode — Are there any plans for different locations to branch utility outside of the game? For example, auctions or P2P swaps (similar to Foxy Swap) using the $GGLD token.
A: This is certainly not a bad idea, but as it stands there are no plans for any of them at the moment.
Branching utility outside of the game’s ecosystem is certainly very doable in the future, assuming it does not detract too much from the game’s development.
Though we are averse to integrating something like a full decentralised exchange due to the regulations which will be imposed upon the project, we are certainly quite open to something like a P2P swap.
—
Q: Will you consider allowing imports of save data from other games (e.g., Baldur’s Gate, Diablo, Neverwinter Nights) when creating a character in Guild Saga? The game could roughly translate the character’s profile and skills and attempt to fit them into its own systems.
A: We don’t know if something like this is exactly possible, especially from a legality standpoint. Many games likely organise their data in vastly different ways, and would be an encumbering process in the execution of such a feature.
Additionally, it could cause possible imbalances right at the beginning of the game, which we want to avoid especially in a Play-to-Earn environment.
—
Q: Wen roadmap / website update?
A: A timely question to ask — we have in fact just finalised the addition of a new web developer to the team, whose first task will be to fit the new roadmap onto the website. We will be looking to push that out one or two weeks after the gameplay video is dropped.
—
Q: How is the team doing? And how are your portfolios holding up?
A: Thank you for asking, the team is doing quite well! As previously mentioned, if you were present in the game’s development chats during the start of the crashes, you wouldn’t even know there was one happening. Development has since continued with unfazed momentum and strong morale.
Portfolio-wise, rekt without a doubt — but for most of us, it’s a cycle we’ve been through and we’re certainly not in any state of panic.
—
Q: Will there be more sorting options for the Inventory in World Mode? What about free movement (drag and drop) of items at our own discretion?
A: Filtering the inventory is being worked on right now as one of our many QOL improvements. It will be especially nice to have as we begin adding more and more items into the game in future. Free-movement of the items about the Inventory is not planned at the moment.
—
Q: Wen Mercenaries alpha?
A: We don’t have a firm date on Mercenaries at the moment. It’s part of the World Mode Roadmap and will only arrive after some of the other major features such as the Marketplace.
—
Q: What’s the difference between Talent books and Skillbooks?
A: The effective difference would be the type of skill they grant. Talent books grant passive, persistent skills which provide a buff or special effect to your character at all times; whereas Skillbooks provide active, castable abilities for use in battle.
—
Q: Are there items being given out in World Mode now that play into Occupational Quests?
A: Not at the moment, though you’ll find some of them (tools such as Old Fishing Rod) listed in the recently updated Item Database.
—
Q: Will characters lose their talents after a Story Mode playthrough is finished?
A: No. Talents (and Skills) learned will persist through multiple playthroughs.
—
Q: Are there caps on Talents?
A: This is still being decided at the moment. How talents work — you receive a Talent Point once in a while either through levelling or other means, and can use it in conjunction with a Talent Book to acquire the listed skill.
If a cap is implemented on talents for the sake of game balance, you would select a number of desired ones and “equip” them for use.
